During the course we will discover the features involved in writing contemporary poetry. We will explore: 1. Finding your voice as a poet. 2. Experimenting with syllabic verse, free verse and the modern deployment of rhyme. 3. The continuing importance of imagery and metaphor. 4. The continuing relevance of the lyric tradition.
Course aim
This course will explore the writing of contemporary poetry, and will encourage the student to experiment with and complete three finished poems by the end of the course.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- You will have the confidence to explore those emotions and subjects which interest you in your writing.
- You will have gain the technical skills to present your poetry as a finished artefact.
- You will be able to express yourself through imagery and metaphor.
- You will be able to complete 3 finished poems.
- You will understand how to edit and revise your own work.
