The history of the House of Romanov the reigning Imperial house of Russia from its foundation in 1613 to its demise in the 1917 Russian Revolution. The course will cover its charismatic and enlightened rulers from Peter the Great to Catherine the Great through the turbulent palace coups of the five ruling Empresses. The extravagant wealth, the lavish spending on the Winter and Summer palaces, and the exquisitely crafted Faberge Imperial eggs sum up the Romanov legacy today.
Course aim
This course covers the 300 hundred year reign of the Romanov Dynasty from Peter the Great, through Catherine the Great, to the last Romanov. A look at the Romanov Dynasty's impact on autocracy, imperialism, and revolution in Imperial Russia.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Identify the key historical figures and the ruling members of the Romanov dynasty.
- Ascertain the five ruling Empresses routes to power.
- Plot the rise and fall of autocracy and serfdom in Tsarist Russia.
- Understand the Romanov’s power, reforms, and reactions to social upheaval.
- Locate the origins of the demise of Romanov Dynasty leading to the execution of the last Tsar and his family.
