To register for your initial assessment please phone 0300 303 3464 and quote C2422990. This course will help you to communicate confidently in a wide range of everyday and formal situations. You will develop your planning skills to help you to write and improve your reviewing skills so you can identify and correct a range of errors in a text. You will consider the use of sentence grammar and punctuation to ensure you communicate effectively and clearly. You will look at how we change our communication depending on who we are talking to. You will develop skills to predict the meaning of a text when reading, using vocabulary, grammar and other clues.
Course aim
This course will help you to practise your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English. It will help you get ready to move onto a Level 2 accredited course in future.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Research and give a short presentation on a given subject, presenting the information clearly and coherently with an appropriate level of formality.
- Adapt my contribution to a discussion based on the audience, context, purpose and situation, making appropriate choices of vocabulary, formality and tone of voice.
- Choose an appropriate writing style, including choice of vocabulary, formality, layout and length, to achieve a specific purpose and/or for a given audience.
- Use a full range of punctuation and accurate spelling to ensure clarity of meaning.

What you need: You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom. You will need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas.
