This is a non-accredited course in preparation for the Level 3 Certificate in Community Interpreting. Please note that at the end of this course there will be an opportunity to complete a Level 3 initial assessment and check if the L3 course is right for you. By the end of the course you will be able to: 1. Gain further understanding of the role of the Community Interpreter 2. Gain more information about services where interpreters are needed 3. Use a range of interpreting techniques 4. Develop the skills to be able to carry out interpreting assignments effectively

This short online course is free to adults that receive benefits. The course is suitable for adults that may speak more than one language - English and another language.

Course aim

The course aims to bridge the gap between the Level 2 and Level 3 Community Interpreting qualifications.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This is an advanced course for students with experience and skills in this subject
  • This course is for students who have completed the Level 2 Award in Preparation for Work in Community Interpreting qualification. Entry Criteria: 1. Minimum level 2 English and a community language– spoken and written 2. Awareness of some of the procedures, provision and terminology of local PS

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Gain more information about services where interpreters are needed
  • Use a range of interpreting techniques
  • Develop the skills to be able to carry out interpreting assignments effectively

The WEA uses its online learning area, called Canvas, to support your learning. You will also join a virtual classroom using a weblink: the WEA uses a video-conferencing tool, called Zoom. You will need a laptop, computer, tablet or Smart phone which has speakers, a microphone and a video camera.

This course is funded by the Greater London Combined Authority but is also open to residents of other areas.
