You will give opinions about everydayl issues. You will look at different features of longer texts and how these can help us to understand the purpose of the text and find information in it. You will improve your spelling of words by using strategies you have learned before. You will work on extending sentences, in a range of tenses, to write about events and actions in the past, present and future.

Course aim
This course will help you to practise your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English. It will help you get ready to move onto an Entry 3 accredited course in future.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Take part in a discussion: give my opinions clearly and listen and respond appropriately to others’ contributions
- Use effective strategies to find the meaning of unknown words
- Identify the main purpose and ideas in a longer piece of writing
- Plan and draft a short piece of writing using longer sentences, paragraphs, correct grammar and punctuation
- Spell common and regular words correctly
What else do I need to know?
- You will also need access to the internet outside of your sessions. You could do this using a smart phone, tablet, laptop or a desktop computer (at home or through a library etc.). - You will need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas so that you can receive resources, record your progress and achievement and to work with others and share ideas.
