Join popular Earth Scientist, Bev Fowlston, to discover the science behind historic volcanoes and earthquakes that have affected human life. Using demonstrations and video links we will explore major events in Earth history.

Course aim

To provide an introduction to the historic volcanoes and earthquakes that have impacted life on Earth and understand some of the science surrounding geohazards.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand the different volcano types.
  • Explain how earthquakes are recorded and categorised.
  • Recognise the cause and effect of volcano and earthquake geohazards through Earth's history.
  • Engage in active learning.

If you have chance to brush up on your basic geology that would help with some of the technical terms but not essential as a glossary will be provided.
