Philosophy Basics: What do Moral Philosophers do?

Ref: C2347296

Moral questions are often difficult, and it can be hard to know what is morally right in a particular situation. We all have to deal with these issues but philosophers do this in a more systematic way than most of us are able to do in day to day life. They ask what the right basis for moral decisions is - are the consequences of our actions most important ? or the principles we follow in making decisions ? or what kind of person we aspire to be ? They also think about whether morality is subjective, objective or prescriptive. The course will give you an indication of how moral philosophers do this. Knowledge of Philosophy is not expected.

Course aim

The aim of the course is to give students an indication of what moral philosophers do - the kind of questions they ask about morality and how they try to answer them.
