This course will explore the poster publicity produced by the railway companies for Yorkshire destinations. We will be looking at a range of destinations: seaside resorts, the wide open rural spaces of the moors and dales, historic towns and cities. There will be a particular focus on the L.N.E.R. operating between 1923-47 as well as some from the pre-grouping era and British Railways after 1948. Fully illustrated with discussion.

- Relate examples of the the railway publicity to the wider social & cultural context.
- Analyse and discuss a wide range of examples of railway publicity featuring coastal, rural & historical destinations.
- Consider the artistic merit of this commercial art as well as its function to sell services.
- Realise the enormous quantity of visual publicity produced by the railways within the period being studied.
