From playing existing music to composing your own, join a friendly online group to discover a range of ways that you can make the most of your piano or keyboard using a combination of Western music theory and practical exercises! Please note- This course will not specifically focus on the technical aspects of digital instruments. We will be using the keys themselves to make music, rather than different buttons.
Course aim
Learn a range of theory and practical skills for a piano or keyboard.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
- This course involves practical piano/keyboard exercises. Therefore, you must have access to a piano/keyboard for the duration of each weekly class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Play at least 1 type of scale on a piano/keyboard, such as chromatic, modal, pentatonic or blues
- Identify the notes in at least 1 musical clef and accurately locate them on a piano/keyboard
- Accurately interpret at least 1 rhythmic component of playing a piano/keyboard, such as note values, time signature or tempo
- Play at least 1 type of chord on a piano/keyboard, such as major, minor or seventh
- Play at least 1 melody on a piano/keyboard, using at least one hand
