Being able to sew is such a useful skill. During this course you will learn more dressmaking skills and also techniques to recycle. upcycle, customise, mend and alter your clothes. You will need to be able to sew to a basic level and have sewing kit. We will alternate between dressmaking using commercial or own made patterns and sewing sustainably by using existing garments or a combination of the two! You will need a dressmaking project or a range of items to alter, upcycle etc and all other notions. Large equipment is provided at the venue

Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Discuss ideas behind sustainability and dressmaking
- Demonstrate how to make garments using commercial dress patterns from fabric or other garments.
- Appraise garments and repair or mend various examples of wear and tear.
- Solve sizing issues by altering clothing to fit or making from scratch from commercial patterns.
- Experiment imaginatively restyling and customising garments to give them a new lease of life.
What else do I need to know?
Essential Sewing kit; Fabric scissors, tape measure, pins, needles, un-picker, chalk, thread Extra sewing kit items; Paper scissors, rotary cutter, ruler, snipping scissors, aqua or frixon fabric marking pens, bulky seam aid, French curve. Sewing machines, iron and ironing board at the venue.
