This course is an introduction to sewing with dress patterns and for those with some sewing experience, who can work on a range of projects and require support in completing the tasks. The course is suitable for beginners as well, as we are going to cover basic sewing techniques too. Students are welcome to bring and work on their own patterns / projects with tutor support and guidance

Course aim

This course is an introduction to sewing with dress patterns and for those with some sewing experience, who can work on a range of projects and require support in completing the tasks

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use pattern cutting and sewing tools and sewing machines safely
  • Develop an understanding on following pattern instructions and pattern symbols and keys
  • Master new techniques in sewing such as use of an over locker, zipper foot and various other machines and gadgets
  • Demonstrate knowledge of various seams and hems.
  • Produce a garment / project, using a pattern with at least two different features such as a faced neckline, cuffs and buttons and buttonholes.

Sewing machines and basic sewing room tools are provided ,but it is advised to bring your own sewing kit
