Bag Making Techniques

On this course students will learn a range of techniques around bagmaking. Students will learn how to line a bag, add a zip, make strong handles and insert various styles of pockets. Students will also learn different ways to add depth and shape to bags.

Course aim

This course will give students the basic skills for bagmaking which they will then be able to take forward to design and make their own bags.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explain how to line a bag with different methods
  • Demonstrate how to add at least 2 types of pockets into a bag
  • Produce a sample of a zip top closure
  • Discover at least 2 different ways to add depth and shaping to a bag

What else do I need to know?

A basic sewing kit including scissors, pins, and unpicker in addition to threads, zips and fabrics. A sewing machine will be required. This is online so students will need access to the internet to participate on Zoom and also to access the course materials on Canvas.
