Mixed Crafts

On this course students will explore a range of different craft techniques making a small project with each. The course will include wax and dyes to make batik type fabrics, rag rugging, needle felting, weaving, and working with felt.

Course aim

This course will provide a taster of a number of different crafts, creating a small project in each. This will give students an appreciation of a number of areas to consider if there are any areas they would like to learn more about in the future.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand how wax can be used in the dyeing of fabrics
  • Demonstrate how to safely use needle felting equipment to make a brooch
  • Discover how a variety of materials can be used in traditional weaving techniques
  • Produce a 3D flower using felt
  • Explain how traditional rag rugging can be used to create a textured picture

A basic sewing kit including scissors, pins, and needles, in addition to threads, fabric scraps and wool
