The topic of trees audaciously brings both grandeur and sensitivity. Strength and healing. Artists have had a long love affair with trees and delving into the abundance of arboreal art is fascinating. Potent symbols in mythology, folklore and culture – the Tree of Life, the Sacred Tree, the Tree of Knowledge – forms of 'the world tree' also called the cosmic tree, thought to be the source of life at the centre of the world. When we observe the tree as it changes seasonably, we are naturally drawn into this magical repertoire. Over the course you will learn how to gather natural visual stimuli and expand your drawing skills, exploring form, tonal values and shading. The experience is calming; combining drawing, painting and nature proven ways to calm the nerves and focus the mind.
Course aim
Trees are the spirit of life, offering their incredible symbolism to many cultures, and becoming the muse for many artists and poets. During this course we will be (re)discovering the tree as inspiration for a variety of practical art techniques.
