We all like different songs, but why? What factors make one person love a song and another person hate it!? Is it the music, or is it the lyrics? What about the instruments or even the singer? Enrol now to join the discussion and share your ideas and opinions within a supportive group, as well as discovering some of the theory behind why you might enjoy certain songs more than others!

Course aim

To explore our own musical tastes / preferences and unpick some of the reasons why certain songs might appeal to certain people.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Analyse and articulate the reasons why I like a particular song more than others
  • Describe at least one factor that may influence a person's taste in music
  • Comment on the relationship between interval patterns and the sound of a melody
  • Comment on the effects of music on the brain's limbic system
  • Make a contribution to activities and discussions
