Learn to play and sing is a hands on music course for adults of all ages and abilities. The course will provide the basics in guitar, percussion, singing and song writing tuition for complete beginners and those with some experience who want to improve their existing musical skills. The course will provide opportunities to explore themes in creative lyric writing and will help to develop all the skills needed to perform original compositions and popular songs along with fellow students. Anyone can take part, regardless of ability or experience and our music courses can help to positively reinforce emotional well being.
Course aim
Learn to Play and Sing is a music course for adults in Chesterfield. The course will provide an introduction to music, including group singing workshops, instrument tuition, lyric writing, song composition, percussion, rehearsal and performance.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Aim to attend 7 out of 9 sessions (or as many as possible) to enable me to build consistently on my skills.
- Perform a series of simple rhythms and strumming patterns using either percussion instruments or guitar.
- Identify and play a set of simple open chords (chords played without barring) including major, minor and seventh chords.
- Construct a lyrical phrase (single word or whole phrase) for inclusion in a group song writing exercise.
- Show recorded evidence of at least two new original musical compositions.
What else do I need to know?
- Nothing else is needed - A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you - It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
