Using a selection of projects you will come together once a week to compare and contrast your discoveries. You will learn a range of strategies applying a variety of sources and resources. We aim to encourage each other and to complement each other drawing on our life-experience as well as the many methods of historical enquiry used in family history, local history, and house history in social context.
Course aim
This is a course for those concerned to improve their research skills for genealogy as a hobby. It will use project based approaches to add skills and strategies to your arsenal of historical enquiry.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Construct a project to move your research forwards in family history.
- Consider and evaluate the impact of a variety of aspects of history on your research.
- Describe the impact of learning on your research journey
- Navigate around the use of Zoom, Canvas and other online tools with some confidence to enhance your research skills
- Give a presentation of your progress illustrating how you overcame problems
What else do I need to know?
You will need: - A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you - It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
