Creative Writing with Deborah Tyler-Bennett

Ref: C2346640

This course is for writers who really want to make the most of their skills in creative writing, considering how to make the most of techniques in storytelling, poetry and other forms. Taught by a published writer, the course also considers who you are writing for, and how you can make the most of your 'literary voice' - whatever that may be. Advice on sending work out and preparing it for publication, is also available.

Course aim

This course is about making the most of your skills in creative writing, whilst learning some new ones.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers
  • New students may discover that they learn much from more seasoned writers.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Concentrate on those elements of creative writing that comprise 'my writing voice', as discussed in class.
  • Analyse how to create lines of poetry which are rhythmic and contain strong images.
  • Direct attention to making the most of poetic language and also adapt this when creating prose.
  • Explore editing, cutting, and polishing techniques - and have gained confidence in using these.
  • Should I so wish, have gained confidence and knowledge in approaching literary markets.

How will I be taught?

What kind of feedback can I expect?

What else do I need to know?

Pen, paper, folder, plus a writer's notebook, whether that is paper or digital.
