Have you ever wanted to paint more abstractly but not sure where to start? This course will provide an introduction into abstract painting we will explore different ways of working through painting exercises and looking at the different types of abstraction. There will be opportunity to develop a piece of work in your chosen media. The course is open to all levels or artistic experience from beginners to those who want to further develop their practice.

Course aim

This course is designed to develop a more abstract way of working in artistic practice in a friendly and supportive group of like minded students. The course will explore different aspects of abstract painting.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe at least 2 approaches to abstraction.
  • Complete drawing/painting exercises to explore an abstract way of working
  • Research and discuss an artists' work
  • Create an abstract piece of work
  • Identify a strength and area for development in your work

- You will need painting and drawing materials which you want to use to create your work. Sketch book /paper for exploring ideas and exercises.
