This course will help you to increase your knowledge and skills in French, consolidating and expanding your learning in a range of everyday situations which could arise in a French speaking country. Develop your skills in narrating events or expressing different points of view and improve your reading and understanding of written texts. To feel more comfortable with different verbs' tenses in present, past, future, conditional present and to know when to use them as well as to increase vocabulary and develop more complex sentences. To develop knowledge of French culture aspects and compare with other known cultural events in United Kingdom, when applicable.
Course aim
To develop communication in French (speaking, listening, reading, writing) in a variety of familiar situations using more complex sentences and structures (past, present and future) and increasing vocabulary. To expand knowledge of French culture.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- The course is for students who have two years’ previous study (French beginners' and improvers') or equivalent experience of the language required
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Contribute weekly to group discussions and activities to expand vocabulary and develop more complex sentence patterns.
- Answer and ask unprepared questions whether in a conversation or after a presentation, eg speaking about favourite French speciality and answering the questions.
- Listen and analyse longer passages and evaluate people's points of view, eg giving an oral summary of what was heard.
- Read and analyse longer texts and evaluate people's points of view, eg. giving a synopsis of what is read or translating part of the text.
- write a text, for example a story, conveying opinions and points of view.
