Action is a key element to storytelling, even in the most mundane and everyday of setups. Alas, it is common for writers to feel unsure on how to effectively portray and utilise action. In this short course we will discuss and define the topic, explore examples, and practise using two possible creative writing techniques and a number of literary devices. We will also consider other topics of note including fight scenes, technical terms, using the environment, and how to increase immersion and raise the stakes by addressing the consequences and development of situations. This course will feature lecture, discussion, excerpts, and a variety of exercises to help give your stories that extra kick!
