Printmaking for beginners using mono printing techniques, great for a family activity that can transform the production of everyday drawing into a work of art that has a professional finish. We will develop layering tecniques employing a variety of methods to create highly textured images that are inspired by the natural world. We will use resists and simple stencils, lay base coats and backgrounds, work with composition and details to build a comprehensive print. Once these basic techniques are learned they can be applied in different ways and a variety of combinations to give you endless hours of mono printing. Every print will be unique and individual to the maker and what a beautiful record of the natural world to frame or share with others.

Course aim

Family fun and creative learning. Using Mono Printing techniques to develop unique images inspired by nature. We will develop beautiful individual prints to frame, based on the natural world such as pebbles, leaves etc.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe and use 3 different mono printing techniques
  • Collect inspirational items from outside my house or on a local walk
  • Develop and describe my personal style
  • Register the paper and work safely with paint
  • Identify other local areas on my doorstep where I can collect items for printing

Basic materials will be provided. feel free to bring; if you have: Ink or paint (acrylic is ok but drys fast, oil is good, waterbased printing ink is good) Acetate or plastic sheet such as a plastic folder that can be cut to size for print registration. masking tape and newspaper to make resist.
