Opera appreciation at Nottingham Mechanics

Ref: C2345940

We will explore a selection of operas, designed to give a representative view of the genre. By discussing the various aspects which make up an opera - eg:- music, libretto, singers, orchestra, production, context and culture at its time of writing and of watching - you will be able to form a judgement about how opera functions. This will help you to watch opera with a greater understanding of how a composer's concept is either reproduced or redefined and how this affects the performance of works from another culture's attitudes and expectations.
