Challenges to the Planet: Water Insecurity

Ref: C2345735

Water water everywhere but not a drop to drink. Our planet is 70% water, but only a fraction of that is fresh water, and only a fraction of that is accessible for human consumption. With a rapid increase in global population and climate change making some water sources unsuitable the pressure on our limited water sources has never been as high as it is right now. From the building of dams on major rivers such as the Nile, and the impact that has on countries downstream, to the over exploitation of water resources such as the Aral Sea or Lake Chad, we will discuss some of the major threats to water security around the world, and discuss some of the the potential solutions to this crucial issue.

Course aim

Water is a vital resource for life on earth - with an increasing global population and climate change, the pressure on water resources is as high as it's ever been - this session aims to explore that pressure and understand the issue.
