This introductory course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in understanding what is Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly people who are considering working within schools and parents of children with special educational needs.

Course aim

What is SEND? is an introductory course that aims to increase participant's awareness and knowledge of the system; Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) that supports children and young people with additional needs in education.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Gain an awareness and understanding of what is SEND
  • Increase awareness of various models of disability
  • Understand the law in relation to SEND
  • Discuss the barriers and challenges children with SEND and their families face
  • Increased knowledge of the rights of children with disabilities and where to get help.

What is SEND
