Women of the Russian Revolution

Ref: C2345626

We often hear about the men involved in the October Revolution in Russia 1917, particularly Lenin and Trotsky, but there were a number of Bolshevik women who took part and who continued to work in government after the party had taken power. But the Bolshevik revolution might not have happened at all if it hadn't been for a protest march by women in Petrograd early in 1917 in response to food shortages caused by the war with Germany and Austria. We'll also look a some revolutionary women from the 19th century, and why they were disappointed by how the 1917 revolution turned out.

Course aim

A look at how a women's demonstration in Petrograd in March 1917 changed the course of world history. We'll also look at women revolutionaries in Russia from the mid-19th century onwards.
