Dressmaking for Beginners Pt 2

If you’ve ever fancied learning to sew or perhaps been gifted a sewing machine or maybe realised you’ve forgotten what Dressmaking you were taught at school! This course will teach how to start sewing and dressmaking. What simple techniques there are, where problems might arise and how to deal with them. You will need to provide and have your own sewing kit, an Easy sewing pattern, fabric and other notions. Large equipment is provided at the venue.

Course aim

This course will teach how to understand commercial dress patterns. We will also cover simple sewing techniques, where problems might arise and how to deal with them. You will have your own project and examples of the techniques.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers
  • You will need to know how to use a basic sewing machine, but this can be covered in class if you're a complete beginner.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Show how to thread and use a standard sewing machine
  • Explain the basic sewing terms found in sewing instructions
  • Complete accurately a range of seams and construction techniques
  • Demonstrate hand sewing and finishing techniques
  • Create simple bags or zip purses or even garments

You will need to have your own project this will be a commercial dressmaking pattern in a style you like. Then when required the fabric and notion to complete the garment.
