Sustainability is slowly creeping into our everyday language, how we live our lives and what we really need to buy. The pandemic has shone a light on consumerism like never before and Fast fashion and many High street shops have taken a tumble. Join lots of other crafters and sewers and do your little bit for the environment by learning how to recycle. upcycle, customise, mend and alter the clothes you already have. You will need to be able to sew to a basic level and have sewing kit, a range of items to alter, and other notions. Large equipment is provided at the venue.

Join other sewers and do your little bit for the environment by learning how to recycle. upcycle, customise, mend and alter the clothes you already have. You will need to be able to sew to a basic level, have sewing kit and a range of items to alter.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
- You need to have made several garments before embarking on this course.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Discuss ideas behind sustainability and sewing
- Demonstrate how to upcycle to create new garments
- Appraise garments and repair or mend various examples of wear and tear.
- Solve sizing issues by altering clothing to fit.
- Experiment imaginatively restyling and customising garments to give them a new lease of life.
What else do I need to know?
You need to have a range of garments that need restyling or altering, or be prepared to trawl through charity shops. You may have your own stock of trimmings and notions to embellish and mend garments. Also old textiles in need of up cycling and of course an imagination!
