Students on this course will learn about fabrics from different cultures, how they have traditionally been made, what they were used for and how to work with them today. Students will be able to explore fabrics from Indonesia, Persia, Scotland, Mexico and the Far East to name a few

Course aim

Students will learn a range of craft techniques, putting those into practise on a range of small projects based around traditional crafts from around the world

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand how wax can be used in the dyeing of fabrics
  • Produce a sample of Embroidery on fabric in different styles to incorporate techniques from different cultures
  • Use far eastern brocade fabrics and know about how they have been used over time
  • Discuss how different cultures use wool in their distinctive products
