Creative Writing - Writing Horror with Shaun Kennedy

Ref: C2345547

Most horror fans will find themselves desensitised to films, whether it be scares or gore. Literature however can use our imaginations against us, thoroughly immersing us in these scenes of ‘terror’ and ‘horror’. Via self-reflection and informed contemplation we will consider what still scares and disgusts us and how we can effectively present and utilise that in our own writing. In consideration of telling a story, we will examine sub-genres, observe how to create relatable and sympathetic characters, weave a smart narrative with symbolic resonance, explore the psychology behind antagonistic settings, and much more. This short course will feature lecture, discussion, examples, and exercises to guide us into writing horror stories we can be proud to scare others with!
