Into Mosaics! Learn the Basics or Refresh Your Skills

You will see demonstrations showing how to use the tools, and discuss the choice of materials that can be either bought, found or recycled. A brief exploration into the various mosaic methods and the endless possibilities once the basic skills are learnt. In this practical course you will be encouraged to create your own mosaics following step by step instruction. During the Zoom meeting there will be periods of time to work on your piece following guidance from the tutor. You will be advised to continue making in your own time and bring your mosaic back to the next meeting for feedback.

Course aim

An introduction into the world of mosaic making. A practical mosaic course suitable for beginners and those with a little experience.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify the basic range of tools and materials used for making mosaics.
  • Use your mosaic nippers to cut and shape pieces for your mosaic work.
  • Explain different mosaic techniques and know when and why they are used.
  • Describe how to grout and finish your mosaic.

Essential equipment needed: •Wheeled Nippers •Tesserae ie: china, crockery, ceramic tiles, found objects •A base, ie, MDF, wood or Delta board •PVA glue or exterior tile adhesive •Grout: exterior grade grout •Pencil, old mixing pots, spoons, and spreaders or brushes
