Dress Making (Commercial Patterns 2)

You will learn different sewing techniques, take body measurements, use commercial patterns and cut out patterns to design, adopt and produce garments with a professional look and feel. This course will teach you how to achieve lots of different techniques in your sewing. The learnt techniques will help you get neater and more accurate results and give your finished project a professional look. You need to have a basic level of sewing to take full advantage of this course. You will also be encouraged to discuss and share ideas to increase your income by selling items online, to family and friends or supporting local charities through donations.

Course aim

On this course, you will get the opportunity to develop your independent research skills along with sewing skills and use these to create projects and patterns of your own choice

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand and follow pattern instructions
  • Develop personal research skills and be able to adopt a pattern into a required design with tutor support.
  • Show the development on the creation of designs of own choices of patterns.
  • Produce an item/ garment to show progress.
  • Discuss and identify subject related local employment or self-employed work opportunities

Basic sewing tools and sewing machines are provided, but it is recommended to bring your own sewing kit and of course materials/ fabrics for your projects.
