How Europe discovered the world. We shall look at the great voyages of discovery from the 15th to 19th centuries considering why and how they were undertaken, the people involved, and what they achieved.
Course aim
This course will chart the European discovery of the world, looking at the great voyages of the exploration, what motivated them, what made them possible and the men involved.

- Recall some of the principal voyages of discovery and the people involved
- Identify key stages in the European discovery of the world
- Explain the motives behind the voyages of discovery
- Discuss the nature of the achievement which individual voyages represent
