This is a free, practical taster session designed for people who want to return to study as a mature student or improve their own study capability at University. During this two hour taster, participants will explore some of the key study skills such as: planning an essay, increasing your vocabulary; reading and referencing. This may lead to a short follow-on course in March examining how to manage your time and get organised; the four stages of editing your written work; how to research effectively; and how to adopt an academic writing style.

To develop your study skills and build up your confidence before going to University as a mature student.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Identify and start to practise some key skills needed for academic or professional study;
- Plan an essay topic and start to explore reading, referencing and research skills;
- Find ways of increasing your academic and general vocabulary;
- Plan for future skills development.
What else do I need to know?
You will need an internet connection, speakers, a laptop, computer or tablet with a microphone and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom. Notebook, pen and paper or other way of building up a personal glossary and taking notes.
