In this course, we will look at a range of topics in child psychology. We begin by considering the work of some influential psychologists. How have their theories helped us to understand child development? In this session we will also consider attachment theories. In the following couple of sessions, we will focus on the importance of learning through play before discussing typical development, using as our example, speech, language and communication milestones. We then consider our contemporary understanding of aggression and challenging behaviours in children. In the final sessions, we will discuss the impact of conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) on the child, focusing on the role of professionals providing support ie Educational Psychologists, the assessment process and the creation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP).
