After studying extracts from published diaries, memoirs and autobiographies students will undertake weekly written assignments to practice different aspects of the creative writing process relating to recounting their own past experiences. By the end of the course students will aim to produce a series of extracts relating to their life story and prepare an outline and chronology of their book. The final class explores the options and practicalities of preparing a book for self-publication in printed and digital format.
Course aim
This is a practically oriented course involving weekly writing tasks aimed at helping older people plan, structure and write an autobiography or memoir. We also explore the options for publishing written work in a printed book format and/or online.

- assess the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches to writing and presenting biographical material
- write about aspects of my life in an entertaining and engaging manner
- devise a structure and chronology for an autobiography or memoir.
- assess a variety of options for publishing my written work in hard copy or digital formats
