19th Century Russian Music with a Native Russian

Ref: C2228594

It’s Marina Burrell’s fourth course in the popular series on "Russian Life & Culture". This time the university lecturer with a 15 years’ experience takes you on a journey with celebrated Russian composers who faced a challenge of linking the European music language with the Russian national tradition. The native Russian tutor will help you engage with Russia & the Russian soul through great music masterpieces. You will learn how Tchaikovsky struggled with fate, how Rachmaninov’s ‘four weeping notes’ revealed Russianness; how Glinka and the Mighty Five transformed the perception of Russian music in the world. The course is based on presentations and supplemented by video & audio, interactive tasks, discussions & a Reading list. Marina’s ex-students say: “I more than achieved my expectations. This was a fascinating, enriching course which opened my eyes.” “The course is excellent in every way - thought-provoking and informative, superb delivery.”
