Concerned about bee and insect populations? This is an introductory course including how modern food production methods can change bee populations around the world. We will explore in three standalone sessions the effects of; growing and eating organic food, farming practices and then find out how our treatment of waste from our homes can impact the environment. We will identify some things that we can do as individuals, and highlight some areas that will have to be initiated by governments. Each session will give you some issues to think about and possibly lead to further study of each of the topics. The session titles are: 1. Organic food and the insect population 2. Farming for the future 3. Don't tip it. Use it!
Course aim
This course is comprised of 3 standalone sessions looking at a variety of topics which have an effect on bee populations.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Identify what organic methods of food production entail, and how these can increase insect populations, particularly in relation to bees.
- Analyse some current farming practices and look at progress within farming today and the future which will increase bee populations, identifying why this is important for world food production.
- Explain how our household waste is processed, see how this is changing to maximise the resources within it reducing the environmental impact of human waste. Identify how to reduce waste from our households.
- Identify aspects of our lives that can have an effect of bee and insect populations around the world.
What else do I need to know?
You do not need to bring anything, but you may like to take notes, so paper and pen could be useful.
