Using creative skills to generate content on a subject of your choice, you learn how to construct a working website to showcase your words, images and graphics, and have the ability to update the content using the WordPress Content Management System (CMS). You will also have the opportunity to login and edit a WordPress site on a fully hosted platform.

Course aim

On this course you will learn the basics of building your own website. Create a free account at WordPress, the world's most popular website builder.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Create a free account at Wordpress.com and login to the admin area, learning basic functions of the WP dashboard.
  • Gain a basic understanding of domain names, website hosting and how to promote a website.
  • Using blockbuilding techniques you will learn how to add blocks of text, images and graphics to a web page.
  • Add posts and add new pages to your website.
  • Design a sitemap and build a working menu to link your web pages.

You will need your own personal email address so that you’re able to login to the WEA’s digital learning platform: WEA Canvas. You will need to be able to follow links to join our WEA live video learning platform: WEA Zoom.
