From early documentary cinema and the early silent films in the 1920s to contemporary film exploring Germany’s place in a global world, this course takes you on a journey through Germany's past through a study of its incredible film industry.
Course aim
On this German film course, you'll gain further insight into Germany's rich history through filmmakers' portrayals of Germany throughout the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Describe how, at least one film, provides insights into German history.
- Critically analyse a range of films using basic film terms.
- Present ideas to the group and take part in group discussions.
- Identify the key issues portrayed within at least one film discussed.

You will need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas so that you can receive resources, record your progress and achievement and to work with others and share ideas. Please bring pens and a notepad to take any notes you wish to make in class.
