Professional antiques dealer, Stephen Poulter, reveals how the world of antiques, vintage items and collectables really works and shows how easy it is for anyone to start buying, selling or collecting in these areas. We will explore the different categories and periods of antique and vintage items which can be purchased from auctions, antiques markets, car boot sales and online. Students will acquire techniques for researching and identifying a whole range of antiques, vintage items and collectables.
Course aim
To provide an introduction to the knowledge, appreciation and skills to acquire, sell or collect antiques, vintage items or collectables from auctions, various types of markets and online.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Identify a range of antiques, vintage items and collectables by historical period and category.
- Explain some of the advantages and disadvantages of buying at auctions, markets and online
- Explain some of the advantages and disadvantages of selling at auctions, markets and online
- Identify antiques and vintage items at a reasonable price in a variety of marketplaces
What else do I need to know?
You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom. You will need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas. Nothing else is needed.
