An Introduction to Antiques

Professional antiques dealer, Stephen Poulter, reveals how the world of antiques, vintage items and collectables really works and shows how easy it is for anyone to start buying or collecting in these areas. We will explore some of the different categories and periods of antique and vintage items which can be purchased from auctions, antiques markets, car boot sales and online. Students will acquire some of the techniques for researching and identifying a whole range of antiques, vintage items and collectables.

Course aim

To provide an introduction to the knowledge, appreciation and skills to acquire and collect antiques, vintage items or collectables from auctions, various types of markets and online.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify a range of antiques, vintage items and collectables.
  • Explain some of the advantages and disadvantages of buying and selling at auctions, markets and online
  • Identify antiques and vintage items at a reasonable price in a variety of marketplaces.
  • how to sell successfully on ebay, either on an occasional basis or as a small business

You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom. You will need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas. Nothing else is required
