This Pilates course will take you through a further advancement in the basic mat based Pilates exercises learnt in course 1. Promoting further strength and flexibility gains as well as the continued improvement in posture, balance and overall health. Students will need to keep cameras on during the sessions for health and safety reasons and so the tutor can monitor body position, ensure students are positioned correctly and will not injure themselves. If a student needs to turn their camera off they have to agree this prior to the course and it must be in extenuating circumstances only.

Course aim

The course will progress from basic Mat Pilates to offer further advancements in training, ensuring the principles of Pilates taught in the first course are executed whilst performing each exercise safely, effectively and with full control.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Improved endurance to hold or slow down exercises
  • Notably improved flexibility in some, if not all major joints within the body.
  • Improved strength in balance holds, possibly holding static balances for longer.
  • Improved physical being, perhaps experiencing less aches and pains.
  • Improved concentration.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course.   • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

  • A exercise mat and a Pilates block if you have one. A small rolled up towel and a small cushion should be all that's needed.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • Information about the history of Pilates and what to expect is on Canvas to read prior to sessions commencing although its not a requirement of your learning.
