This taster course will offer learners a brief introduction to working with pencil as a drawing medium. You will have an opportunity to explore a variety of pencil grades and how they can be used to create tone (light and shade) within a practical drawing project over the 2 hr session. Do I need any particular skills or experience?

- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Produce at least one pencil drawing
- Be able to understand what soft and hard grades are within a pencil.
- Be able to use a variety of shading within a drawing.
- Reflect on own achievements.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course. - The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- You will be able to keep a record of your progress and achievement using photos, audio, text or documents uploaded into the WEA’s digital learning platform, WEA Canvas.
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
What else do I need to know?

- The following materials will be needed- A4 size cartridge pad,a selection of pencils if possible but at least 1 HB, 1 3or4B and one 2 or 3H, an erasure, pencil sharpener and one or two pieces of tracing paper.
