Enjoy the delights of creating beautiful writing.Calligraphy is a skill that is within reach of most of us,& can be learnt in easy stages with one-to-one tuition in 8to10 weeks..with scope to produce your own creative item such as a Christmas card in colour.

Course aim

Create yourself a new & challenging hobby of Beautiful Writing,CALLIGRAPHY.This can be learnt in 8-10 weekswith careful one-to-one tuition.You will be taught in stages,We will learn the Foundational Hand

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use a square edged nib with a reasonable degree of skill & confidence.
  • Develop skills with layout & spacing.
  • Create a small personal project in calligraphy,using colour,such as a Christmas card.
  • Develop interesting decorative borders e.g.leaves or flowers and write a short verse or quotation in the Foundational hand.
  • Discover the therapeutic values in doing calligraphy and illustration.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • You will be expected to carry out a range of activities in your own time

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • Your tutor will provide written, text and audio feedback recorded in WEA Canvas, WEA’s digital learning platform.
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
  • The tutor will keep an ongoing record of your progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
  • An A3 size Cartridge paper pad,Assorted pencils, Ruler,a few elastic bands,a bottle of Parker QUINK ink.A rubber,A pencil

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
  • We have a large selection of Calligraphy books for reference.Guide sheets will be given out from time to time.
