The Carry-Ons: Champions of Great British Low Culture

Ref: C3677954

Exploring the ever-popular yet often derided Carry On film series. Reappraising the aspects of these films which allowed then to be enjoyed by so many whilst also looking at how they managed to be just that little bit naughty whilst being always really rather reserved. How did the film series become such a long running franchise, resisting and yet revealing changing social and sexual attitudes. Journey with the Carry On's through several stages, the profession based, the historical costume based and the final contemporary based outings - why have some dated better than others? Did they 'betray' their audience? How is it that like them or loathe them, they still have us talking about them in the 21st Century?
