Beginners French

This French course will cover all kind of up to date subjects regarding French, cultural, political, environmental subjects. We will revise grammatical points as / when necessary & will discuss up to date articles & news on a weekly basis.

Course aim

This French course taught by a native speaker is designed for students with elementary / intermediate knowledge of French with a view to talk/ discuss about all kind of subjects regarding French social, cultural, environmental & political life.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • This course is designed for students with an elementary / intermediate knowledge in French.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • talk about every day activities & weekend & holiday past times / describe 5 daily activities / holidays
  • give information on 4 different subjects (book / film / news / play/ events in France ( manifestations des Gilets jaunes ....)
  • discuss news 7 give your opinions on the subject
  • read an article in English & summarize it in French
  • read an article in French & summarize it in English

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • role plays / group discussions / students oral presentation & homwork

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • A file of work will be kept which will help to record your progress
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress
  • students are assessed on a weekly basis through oral presentation/ role plays / homework / discussions

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • students are encouraged to read French news & consult websites such as RFI.fr & France24.fr before attending the course if they wish
