This course is fully online with no physical meeting space. You will be accessing the course through Canvas which is our virtual learning environment and through zoom which is video conferencing software. For the course you will need a reliable internet connection, access to a computer or other internet linked device that has a camera and microphone. We will email links to canvas and zoom,please accept these to access the course, it will show as “instructure”, if you do not you will not be able to access the course content. It is a good idea to do this with time before the course so if you are having issues you can contact us to make us aware. This session will provide a flavour of the course content - topics such as Relationships & Teamwork, Safeguarding, Inclusion, and Special Educational Needs. It will also introduce the variety of presentation and learning methods that will be used. We all have views and experiences of education and we will explore these together in a fun way!
Course aim
This 90-minute taster will provide an introduction to the expectations and practicalities of supporting children in schools.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?

- This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.
- Students will be taking part from the comfort of their own home.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- have a greater insight into the role of the helper in schools
- leave the session with positive thoughts about the 6-session course
- feel comfortable and confident enough to enrol on the full course
How will I be taught?
- The WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas will be used to provide resources or to support lessons, enable assessment, provide learner feedback and for other activities for individuals away from the course. - The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- Everyone will share experiences and learn together in a varied and fun way.
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
