This course focuses on the creative process and uses a simple technique for generating narrative ideas using image prompts. After looking at the creative writing process and its benefits in terms of self-awareness and mindfulness, participants will be encouraged to observe their immediate environments and feelings through simple observation and writing exercises.

Course aim

This course explores ways that observation and writing can be used as part of a tool kit for developing creative thinking and personal wellbeing strategies through simple observation and reflection exercises that inspire the creative process.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This is a live lecture delivered by a subject specialist in an online webinar video learning platform. You will need to be able to access the internet on a device with speakers or earphones.   • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
  • Students need a Level 1 qualification in English to join this course

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • generate creative writing ideas from images found in magazines or on the internet
  • write descriptive passages based on personal reflection and experience
  • use simple mindfulness techniques to inspire the creative process

How will I be taught?

  • The session will be presented using PowerPoint slides and group discussion. Participants will work in small groups to generate ideas and share their reflections. Short reflection/writing exercises will be set with opportunities for peer feedback and discussion.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?
