Course aim

Art and Mindfulness is to give an introduction to art skills and relaxation using a variety of drawing materials and watercolour; to have fun and relax drawing on your own imagination and from observation with guidance from your tutor.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for a group of around 15 students studying in a live video-learning platform conference and an online digital learning environment platform from the comfort of your own home.
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Improve your well being through enjoying an art session joining with other people to make art and socialise getting to know others.
  • You will begin to use watercolour painting techniques and improve use of colour and paint handling.
  • You will develop observational drawing techniques and ways of showing tonal contrast to show 3D form.
  • You will be able to combine imaginative ideas for images as you develop your drawing and colour knowledge further.
  • Relax and reflect through looking at other artists work and natural forms to inspire your own art work.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
